Project Synopsis:
Santa's
Best Friend is
a children's Christmas poem that I wrote in 2000. My original
intention was to animate a familiar Holiday story like The
Night Before Christmas; but, I did not want to deal with
copyright issues. So, instead I wrote my own children's short
story incorporating two of my favorite characters: Gertie and
Doogan. In the story, a young girl named Gertie explains to
kids why they should believe in St. Nick. She has no doubt that
he exists because her dog, Doogan, used to live and work with
Santa. Through Doogan's eyes, Gertie explains several of Santa's
best-kept secrets, including 'how he gets around the world in
one single night.'
